It might be argued that I should be reading something more intellectual than the novelisation of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but anyway, I need your help. What does the following quote mean:
"Ruskies!" Mac said under his breath. "This won't be easy." His English accent made every line sound like the introduction to a joke.
Were the English well known as comedians in the 50s? Do people from the US find Ray Winstone's voice hilarious? I'm genuinely mystified....
